Cockersands Abbey

By MeanGreeny
This is the Chapter House of Cockersands Abbey which was a Premontratensian Abbey founded in 1190 called St Mary's of the Marsh. The abbey grew and became one of the richest houses in Lancashire. Henry VIII then closed the Abbey and its land was sold as part of his dissolution of the monasteries [1536-40]. The remnants of a wall in the foreground is all that remains of the Leper Hospital.

Nice composition. The placement of the wall at the "vanishing point" of the clouds creates a really dynamic effect.

Love the sky. Almost a zoom burst effect. Almost surreal

Funny thing is, the sky is "as was". No PS "adjustment" :o)

I love the way you've composed this, Simon - it works classically in drawing the eye in from the foreground interest to the chapter house beyond. The sky is an added bonus. I'm just wondering, though, whether the image is a little soft?

Good composition. Might benefit from a little more dof perhaps?
