Col des Aravis

By TrevBatWCC
The last stop of on our ‘Lakes and Mountains’ coach tour was here at Col des Aravis, a mountain pass in the French Alps that connects the towns of La Clusaz in Haute-Savoie with La Giettaz in Savoie. At 1,487 metres above sea level, it is the lowest pass in the Aravis Range of mountains and has been used many times in the Tour de France.
The lead is looking towards a farm in the near distance where the cows (bottom left) were heading home after their day out. By the roadside were other farm buildings, plus a few restaurants and souvenir shops selling typical Savoyard items. There’s also this lovely little chapel (V2) devoted to St. Anne founded in 1624 by Pierre-François de Belletour, Lord of Flumet, for the protection of the travellers passing by. The current chapel dates to 1867. Not as sharp an image as I would have liked, but V3 is inside the chapel.

Many thanks to Colleen for her User Award on my previous upload, Spot the boule! , most appreciated Smile

For anyone who couldn’t spot the boule in that upload, in the lead image the boule is an out-of-focus grey blob between the central tree and the white brolly to the left of it, about arm level; in V2 it was directly in front of the chap’s red cap.

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection’s Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging Smile
