Cold Sovereign

By hwatt
Minus 19C high on Dava moor near Carrbridge, Scotland. A sapphire coloured jewel of a loch, surrounded by wind burned heather and fringed by golden grasses has frozen solid, the reeds themslves, stiff, with an icy crust. A small island, forms a golden sovereign in the middle of the loch illuminated by the first fingers of warming sunlight. As the ice expands it fractures with a pistol crack noise causing my heart to miss a beat.

I know that loch!!! I was out there a couple of days ago and ended up taking shots of the nearby abandoned croft (not yet posted up). Wish I'd been early enough to see this!

Been to this Loch just the once, it's a fair journey for me. This is really good, the frozen grasses and fine colour. The diagonal rays of sunlight. Excellent work Ian.

All the very best
