Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) and Noctilucent Clouds over Jodrell Bank

By AntHolloway
In the early hours the recent addition to the night sky, Comet NEOWISE starts to climb in the sky and last night was accompanied by a great display of noctilucent clouds. The Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank Observatory stands illuminated by moonlight against the backdrop of low clouds lit by the lights of Manchester.

Three in one: that makes this special...

Jodrell Bank occupies a very special place in the hearts and minds of men of a certain age: the beating heart of research in the mid-Sixties.

Nice image with a lot to read into it - I read recently that the increasing prevalence of noctilucent clouds was a sign of increased methane gas pollution in the upper atmosphere.
