In light of the very recent hatching of two Common Crane chicks at Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, it seemed fitting that I let this image jump my processing queue. This is one of the parents taken at the nest site last Thursday. That is, about 2-3 days before the hatching.

One chick hatched last year, but survived only a few days. If young are reared successfully this year, they will be the first in the UK for 400 years.

So it's congratulations and keep your fingers crossed.

A brilliant capture - it must have been wonderful to watch them (I saw the report on the television a few days ago, it was amazing to see them all flying around)

Two fine shots of this proud looking bird Malcolm, I was going to post something similar myself. It's encouraging to see that the two youngsters have survived their first few days, lets hope they make it through to adulthood
Two great images of this beautiful bird.
