Contemplating light and shade

By Ericsamson
Another film image from the archives and one which I think must date back to the early 1980's (I'm guessing 1981?) It shows a cobbled lane in the shadow of York Minister and the unknown gentleman in the suit is standing just outside the entrance to The Treasurer's House, a National Trust Property and well worth a visit. At the bottom of the lane is a left turn into Grays Court another old building and which, at that time, was part of the English and History Department of St. John's College and where I attended lectures. Sadly it is no longer available to students and is now a hotel. I keep meaning to go in for a cuppa and a bun just to see what has changed!
The version is a familiar view of York Minster only about a one minute walk away from where I took the lead image. Happy days!
Many thanks for the responses to 'The Abbey Habit' and to Ju for his UA - all much appreciated.
All the best for the weekend. It's just stopped raining so off for a quick walk - cabin fever setting in!!!

Brings back memories as we were in York last month but it never stopped raining for our three days!!
These are very good to be from the early 1980's. You do not say what film it was, transparency?
Your optional image I prefer.

It's amazing to see any part of York, as quiet as this Eric, even 40 years ago.
The warmth, colour and saturation is exquisite.
Always attempted but never quite achieved with digital

A typical colour cast from film processed in that era. I have quite a few in various albums!
It was in York I came face-to-face for the first time with fellow ePz'ers - the woolybills and a certain Jasper87, aka Dave.

Perfectly composed lead Graham, and a superb shadow.

Two wonderful blasts from the past, Graham.
Funnily enough, we were in The Treasurer's House in June and I have an image of Grays Court taken from said House!
St. John's College, I believe, had a good Handicraft Department in the 60s and 70s.
It's good to see these fine film 'fotos'!

Many thanks to all for the votes and comments! Sorry Ian, I should have said that these were taken on Kodachrome slide film. I always preferred the 'brightness' of transparencies over prints even if it did mean faffing about with a viewer - or a projector!
I pondered over which to put as the lead and based my decision on the depth of the shadows, the sense of convergence and the rather smart looking chap gazing down the lane away from the camera. Thanks also to Toobi_Won for reminding me about the warmth and saturation that film offers!

I have a picture on here somewhere of my Grandson, wandering down that very lane.
