I took this photograph in the Monday market in Huddersfield.

My eye, however, is drawn to the pillow on the right hand side of image. Am I being too picky or does the pillow really detract from the portrait?

Well, now you point it out. What a pity, since it's such a wonderful shot otherwise. Of course, a mono conversion would solve it but then you'd lose the red cyclamen...

I like the image, there is an intensity to her gaze and I like the tight crop on her head. I think the pillow does draw attention away somewhat, especially the purple patches and its whiteness. I have done a mod to mask both of these.

Thank you Nigel - that's very much appreciated. The pillow is not half as intrusive as it was. I'm starting a photoshop course next week, so will hopefuly be able to manage something similar myself in a few weeks timeGrin

I agree with Nigeve1 but would make the background monochrome. I love the lady's skin tones. They contrast with her grey clothing. The gold bangle is beautiful. I'd also keep the red cyclamen in the fore ground.
This said the picture speaks volumes as it is. Very will caught. Congratulations.

If you think its a distraction, then it is.

The mod by Nigel tones it down nicely. Another approach is to use a portrait crop, which removes it entirely - and Ive uploaded a mod to show what I mean.

The image either needs sharpening, or the re sizing process may have been a problem.

Hi Willie,
Thank you for your mod. I tried a portrait crop but wondered if it did not cut off the length of the gaze - if you see what I mean. Having said this it is better without the pillow.
Thanks for taking the time to do that for me.

kind regards
