A Coal tit Periparus ater, commences the 2013 uploads from The Coppice

Thank you all for your kind words regarding Bailey tomcatSmile

I went to put some bottles in the bin, around 12.30 this morning and the first thing I saw. in the street light, was a fox, trotting across the courtyard, which is off the road to the side of us. Mrs T reckons she saw Bailey there, just before she came to bed on Christmas night.
We are now resigned as to how he met his fate. At least it would have been quickSad

A happy new year to you... Very sorry to hear about Bailey.. But don't give up yet, our Fafnir went missing once for nearly a week and came back just fine. My cat Maya went missing twice, once for four weeks. Came back with no hair left round the paws... Although she as fluffy. Fed and slept for three days...

Foxes rarely take cats, you would have heard the battle going on, a cat can inflict some terrible injuries on a fox, there would be evidence of a kill..........look for this evidence. Was your cat ill or is it aged, if so this may explain why he has disappeared. I hope he returns.

HNY, Adrian. Cold, wet and miserable here, so no chance of getting a new year image Sad So sorry to hear about Bailey, not a good way start the year, but things can only get better. As Janet says, don't give up hope, miracles can happen. Carol

Adrian, although you keep it tucked away in the back of your mind, don't give up hope just yet. Nick's tom faced off three foxes on a railway line, this was watched by a neighbour who could do nothing to help. He just made a point of telling us the next day when he saw that our 'Pixie' (a very lean, elegant looking, black and white tom) was completely unmarked!

A superb capture, Adrian. Don't give up on the cat yet. One of ours went missing the summer before last
but returned 8 days later, thinner but otherwise ok.
All the best mate.

Sad news for sure....we have a fox running around here, too. My cats are not happy with me for putting then on house arrest!
Still, there is hope. Cats are amazingly resilient, he may be hiding out somewhere.

A truly beautiful image. So very sorry to learn the likely fate of your little cat. As Colin says, still a chance this is not the answer and he may yet return.

Adrian, I lost my cat for 6 days. He was discovered in neighbour's shed. He must have gone in whilst the door was open and the neighbour locked it without realising he was in there. He was fairly weak when discovered but recovered very well. So perhaps this could be your line of enquiry. All the best.
