Coppice CCCXIX

By tomcat
This Blue tit Cyanistes caeruleus, was taken thirty minutes before yesterday's upload. I can accept the very slight breast shadowing on this one.Smile
In thirty minutes, the light had shifted around enough to cause the heavier shadowing on yesterdaysSad

Seeing as I cannot move the perching area to the right, then I will have to relocate the hide to the left, or don't take any photographs after 9.30amGrin
Weather permitting, a good reccy and sample shots on Saturday, should resolve the issue.
One day I will have my set up at The Coppice as I finally want itWink

Vey nicely captured Adrian, excellent detail and colour, if anything I think a little subtle shadowing is a good thing, gives the subject some depth and should all be adjustable in the post processing anyway. Great work as usual. Smile

Could you try a small gold or silver reflector below and to the right to bounce light into the shadow area? It shouldn't scare the birds off and would add detail and coloured reflected light to the shadowed side. Balancing the light sources is, of course, important. If it were positioned slightly behind the bird as well as to the right then it would have a gentle rim light accentuating the form and volume of the bird.

It's a beauty, Adrian, nothing wrong with a touch of shadow on the breast at all. Haven't been out the front door again today, the wind is biting, it's been trying to snow, too Sad Carol

How about leaving it and capturing birds in natural light rather than trying to make it look like a studio shoot Ade. If you make it too fussy it will look too unnatural. Change the bg and make that a natural one that will be affecting the light.
This bluey is superb but the bg is too plain, it needs to look as nature intended with some differences in tones. Its like a painted wall mate.
