Coppice CDVI

By tomcat
A Marsh tit Poecile palustris, from yesterday's session at The Coppice

There has been a mini debate taking place, between a few of us, as to the positive I.D between a Marsh tit & a Willow tit

This image clearly shows the traits of the Marshy.
Shiny black cap
Pale "cutting" edge to the beak
Small neat bib
No pale panel on the wings
A flat end to the tail
A rounded neck, as opposed to the "bullish" neck of the Willow
My personal one - The Marshies perch up before going to the food source, where as the Willows are straight inSmile

Another tip, for anyone who might not use it, is that I was set up yesterday, with the focal point at top RH of centre, with Servo disabled.
As this Marshy came in from the right, a quick lock on to the eye and then swing the camera (on tripod) a few degrees to the right and bingo, the whole bird is in the frameTongue

Many thanks for the overwhelming support for yesterday's L-ttGrin

Especially to Trev (Trev_B), Martin (buxton), Ann (EAS), Dean (WindowonWildlife), Phil (PhilSingleton) & Shaun (OAKEY), for the very generous User awards - another one just rolled in from Nigel (NigelKiteley) - thanks mateTongue
Thanks allTongueTongueTongueTongue

Far too technical for me, Adrian, I'm lucky if I can even capture a bird in the frame, let alone it being in focus GrinGrin Pouring with rain here, cold and miserable, spending the day in front of the fire. Carol

Another fine shot from yesterdays successful foray to the coppice, this one has turned out remarkably well. I doubt you've ventured over to your favourite patch of woodland today given how wet and windy it is!Wink

Working on it Julian

The Willows were in yesterday, but the food source was placed in a hollow to the right and bottom of this perch. The perch is the top of the log.
To the right of the food was my piece of white board (reflector)
I was after perching birds. I need to set up a different feeding log, as the Willows fly straight in and remain for a few seconds, until they cannot cram any more seed in their beak. Most of my Willow shots have them with seed in their mouth - greedy buggers

Hope this makes senseWink

Fantastic capture, I have never seen a willow tit since I got a bird lens... They don't live in France or Belgium. But even the marsh tits are hard to get! This is a very fine capture!
