Corbiere Lighthouse

By RonnieAG
This shot was taken during a holiday in Jersey in 2006 and is of the Corbiere lighthouse at the SW corner of the island.
It is the very first structure in the British Isles to be be built entirely of concrete. It can be visited at low tide, the start of which is shown in the photo. Visitors who make the journey across are warned of the tide turning by a klaxon.
The word Corbiere means the place where crows congregate.

Many thanks to all who looked at and commented on my last shot "Montana" - your votes and comments are all was greatly appreciated.

Ronnie.

lovely summery shot, makes me want to go pay a visit - we have a lovely bit of sunshine here to start the weekend.

I like the inclusion of the people all waiting for the tide to allow access

Love all the rocky detail Ronnie.Good light and colours too.
Interesting to hear it was the first structure built of concrete.
Now I know what was the first to be made out of that dreadful stuff !! ( you will know by now I am more of a ''metal'' guy )
Great shot.

This brings back memories! I holidayed in Jersey way back in 1988 and again in 1994. It's a beautiful place with a much varied coastline, but think this corner of the island is the most delightful. I have walked out to the lighthouse (tide out, of course!), but if I remember rightly you can't actually climb up to it. A very lovely composition and capture, Ronnie, with a nice lead-in of the slipway, and the human interest, too. Thanks for sharing this with us.

like the positioning of the couple and the kids on the causeway. theres a couple of things i hope that you dont mind me mentioning, the horizon dips alittle to the right (rich i know cos my stuff isnt level) and i would prefer for the lighthouse to be sharper.lesley
