Hello, Lawrie, and welcome to EPZ's Critique Gallery.
I see from your portfolio that you have been with the site for some years, although you haven't uploaded very often.

So, what is your reason for asking for critique. It's helpful to those wishing to give you critique if you can give us some information such as what you think of the image yourself and if there are any specific areas that you would like advice on. Also, it's useful to have your full Exif Data in order for us to comment sensibly on your camera settings and give technical advice.
You can add extra information at any time, or can use this comments section.

The image is quite small, and therefore the quality is poor, making critique and modifications difficult. You can upload an image without reducing its size, and the site will resize it for you. It's a nice image so I hope you do have a larger file.

I have done a modification just to show you what a crop to the image would look like. But you will need to do this on your full-sized original because the quality will inevitably deteriorate if you use the size that you are showing here.
My crop places your cormorant on a thirds intersection, using a commonly used guideline called The Rule Of Thirds. I also brightened the image, lifted shadows and sharpened, and the feather detail is now coming out nicely.
In fact, I think there is a lot of detail in the log, water and bird that could be brought out on the original.
You can view modifications by clicking on the blue "Modifications" option beneath your picture.

I look forward to a little more information from you, and a little feedback is always appreciated.

Pamela.

Welcome from me too.

It would be helpful to see the exif details and a copy of the original (you can upload it as a modification). This image looks soft so the exif will suggest reasons why, and if this is a significant crop from the original that would also cause any softness to be more apparent.

Welcome from me, too!

As Pamela and Keith have said, it's hard to provide helpful suggestions until we have fuller information from you!

The image is extremely small, - you can upload a much larger image and file size.

Its only 720 X 481, and file size is 61kB, whereas you can upload a 1mB file, - perhaps you are working with old limits that dont exist these days? You can upload either the larger size, or the original as suggested, right here by clicking the Modifications button, then selecting Upload, and the image will appear here as your modification.

Welcome from me too. It would help to know a bit more - and I would suggest that you upload the full file as a modification. (Go to the blue Modifications button below your upload and follow the instructions... ) That would give us something better to work on.

If you add the original as a modification, without using Save for web, we should also be able to pick up the Exif data, which is missing here.

Advice for critique uploaders is given here , on the Critique Gallery home page.

Hi Lawrie and welcome back to ePz, I see you have not been around since 2014 and things have changed since then.

As has been mentioned this file is far too small to view properly, so constructive critique is very difficult to offer.
Pamelas mod looks like a much better composition and has benefitted from a little brightening.

The original, if you still have it would be beneficial, together with the exif data.
