Cotswold shadows

By Ericsamson
In which our hero, (Who are you kidding? Ed.) fresh from a very leisurely sabbatical, returns with yet more railway based images, this time from the bucolic beauty of the Cotswolds where chip butties require a license and I encountered nobody called Norman. (See earlier uploads!)
These pictures were taken on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway* - another wonderful organisation run very largely by volunteers - during a return journey between Cheltenham Racecourse and the fairly recently opened Broadway Station. As the rain hammers against the window of my log cabin in the remote wilds of Sherwood Forest I should make it clear that the weather recorded in these images of little more than a week ago is genuine and has not been photoshopped in ... can't use Photoshop anyway! For those with an interest in such things the diesel locomotive is a Class 37 impeccably restored and painted in British Rail Green. (I had to look this up!)
Many thanks to all for the votes and comments in response to 'Small Cars Only' and all the best for the weekend.
* The line also boasts an impressive collection of diesels and is well worth a visit ... but best to wait for better weather!

What a pristine clean railway station. Could almost rival Swiss ones we have been seeing recently. Now that is a high accolade!! A nice set of a Heritage Railway.

Willing, enthusiastic volunteers provide an immense number of excellent services, such as in this instance, keeping the trains running, and in accordance with the timetable. It is of immeasurable concern to me that a similar group of willing (for all the wrong reasons), enthusiastic (childishly so) volunteers are at present showing exactly why some tasks are best left to those who actually know what they are doing, instead of spending their time with white knotted handkerchiefs on their heads, uttering "My brain hurts" repeatedly.
Who mentioned the Palace of Westminster...?

Weather, eh? Looks pretty good to me, just as it was here. Not much evidence of mellow fruitfulness to be seen while we were out in the Toon this morning, except that when the return bus failed to turn the atmosphere became very fruity indeed. Nor is it quicker by train, in truth; we have a station beside the Tyne , but that's at the bottom of a very steep and long hill and we live right at the top. The bus from the station is timetabled to set off exactly two minutes before the incoming train arrives. Wonderful planning abounds.

Enjoyable set, Graham, and your anecdote was much appreciated.

Excellent images old chap from an excellent place! Grin Another of my 'happy places'.

I believe the Quorn and Woodhouse station is not so very far from you, tea and Tunnock can be taken by the coal fire as the bloomers on the line dry, and if you can catch Dave serving and talk to him nicely he comes out of his cubby hole and hammers away at the upright in a style most appreciable! Smile

Pm to follow when time permits!

It's always nice to see the stations on these preserved railways well-manicured, and decorated with colourful flowers. Always great to travel on these trains too - even if pulled by a diesel! Can't beat sticking your head out the window (has to be the doors' window which pulls right down) and getting a faceful of smoke and soot from a steam loco though... 🚂👍 Great set here Graham 😃😃
