Hi Jasmine ... I don't think what you've done detracts from the image at all, personally. The lines of cotton and the tops of the barrels is what the main subject is, and what you've done in the processing works for my eyes. It's those parts of the image that stand out, beautifully.
With darkening the edges, the only thing I'd say is that maybe the transition is a little too abrupt ... particularly on the bottom edge, where you've got quite a noticeable line going across that bottom barrel, which emphasizes what you've done with the edges. Can you feather the vignette at all?
Tanya

Looking at the original, it is well underexposed, - likely due to the use of spot metering.
I loaded a mod with exposure adjusted.
nevertheless, you want a specific look which means you really have to kill blacks, and highlight white, which is done in the second mod.
You version is quite good, but I agree that the vignette is overdone.

Willie

Thank you Willie.
Yes, it was underexposed, I had no choice. I was worried about losing the cotton's detail.. ISO was already 2000,it would give me noise if I pushed it to high; Set S:1/50, for hand held. I tried to get a safe shot; aperture opened up to 4, it reached the end.. Vignette came from the filter.. I didn't adjust it.

This is all about the lines, Jasmine, and I like it.
On the right side, there are some long strong lines of the fronts of the containers, and I wonder if you took a picture with those more prominently in it?
There are also some lighter lines around the tops of the containers and I wonder if these could be brighter.
If you look at the thumbnail for this image, you will be able to see more clearly how your vignette has a definite line where it finishes. It's not so obvious when you view it large, except for at the bottom.
I'm waiting to see Willie's modifications before I try one myself.
Pamela.

Yes, thankyou, Jasmine, I'm fine.
Now that I've seen Willie's mods, I've done my own.
Firstly, I cropped the bottom, as suggested above, because that full container is quite bright and keeps pulling my eye to the bottom of the frame instead of appreciating the lines and patterns. I also took a slice off the top and the right side so that the container edges touch the frame edge.
The first mod is a colour version, with highlights increased and brightness added, then a Levels adjustment.
The second mod, which is the one I prefer, is in black and white with the contrast boosted to highlight those lines and shapes.
