Crab Spider

By barrywebb
This is a small Crab Spider, possibly (Xysticus kochi) in the typical pose ready to pounce on any passing prey. It is sat on a nettle leaf, obviously immune to the stinging hairs covering the nettle surface. The version is the same species taken on a different day, this one has an Earwig for it's lunch! Many thanks to Jennifer, Carole, Mike Smith, Mike Gillingham, LoryC, Chavender and Badgerwil70 for their UA's on my Jumping Spider shots.

The nettle looks likes grass turf so good is your macro image. Quite a fearsome looking spider, mind you most insects when you enlarge them so big do not look so nice either. Another great macro.

My award Barry for such a detailed macro. ( it resembles a tail less Scorpion of which we have in the UK )
Two great images. Excellent detail and colour. Hopefully, they are not found in houses!
