Cragside in June

By mrswoolybill
Half a century we have lived in the North East, and we had never visited Cragside in June for the rhododendrons. There are reckoned to be over a million on the site. Look carefully, they are even sprouting from the top of a chimney.
My heart says b&w, my head says colour so you get to see that first. But b&w will appear some time.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

It does need the colour of the rhododendrons perhaps a hybrid - popped for the flowers?

Why is it when you plant stuff in your garden they often die but when you look around things just grow everywhere...

Great image.

Wonderful colour here, Moira, the pinky purple flowers against the stone. I'm not sure it would work in b&w, but.....

Of course, Rhododendrons are colourful but I think the architecture is dominant, so maybe mono😁

Looking at the rh chimneys, I see the need for a slight anticlockwise turn, but the grids in my processing software show them as vertical...

I think Jeff sees what I see here. B&W will appear, eventually...

I know what you are seeing, and checked very carefully when processing this - I think it's an optical illusion caused by the staining on the chimneys, and also perhaps that diagonal bottom right.
Lovely soft flowers contrasting with the stonework....I like the image in colour because of the flowers being so vibrant, but it will be interesting to see it in B&W. Excellent composition and I like the square format... Smile

perfect composition and square format works great again
converting it to b&w may present a challenge

I can see b&w working, there's enough tonal interest. But those colours in the stonework are really very nice, and I rather wish that infernal rhodo wasn't in the way.

There's room for both, Moira. The colours in the stonework and the contrast with the flowers makes it a lovely colour image, a tighter crop to remove the sky perhaps?.. Black and white will give it a different focus and make you feel better as well Smile.

Do my eyes deceive me or is this a colour image, Moira?

Thanks everyone. Now, I happen to think that my b&w conversion works, so it will be interesting in due course to see how it is received...

Lovely tones on the stone, metal work and of course flower heads. No doubt the B/W will follow...
