THE SON, Yanni.

From what I understood he had been a policeman.
Did he come back to look after his parents?
Or did he need looking after?
Lonely, he just wanted to know immediately if I was married, I laughed and pointing at my ring, meant yes.
He spoke some English, ggrm...bad luck... all the best women always taken...
This proud son introduced me to his parents anyway.

These images mean a lot to me, it was a moment in life that you would like to hold with both hands.

Just taken with natural light, no reflector, no flash, straight.

Throughout this series of portraits I think you can see how the photographer was able to quickly build a relationship with the subject. These people trust you and they know that their trust will be honoured by you in your photography - even though they've never seen a picture you've made before that moment.

Beyond the technical brilliance I think this ability to create a moment with the person you're photographing is a rare and special gift.

Beautiful image Magda, the comfort the subject feels in sitting for you is very apparent in the very natural expression on his face. I'm looking to more in this series.
Crete is a great island to visit and the people can be so open and warm it's amazing.

Nicely done.

Yes, without that trust you couldn't take a beauty like it. I often see people I'd like to takedoing mundane jobs when they are gorgeous. I hope you had a lovely time among these friendly people! I just wheeled it up again: it's gorgeous !!

ahh - so no flash on this one, really nice light over there, far brighter than we're used to!

Just out of interest, do you carry a reflector around when you "out and about" - never really thought of that as I'm convinced it'd end up covered in mud or something!

Like the tighter crop on this, really focusses on his smiling eyes.
