Crock O'Dial

By WhiteRose1
Sorry about the title - couldn't think of anything more inspirational. This healthy youngster was shot (photographically) in the Australian Reptile Park near Sydney. One of the keepers gave an interesting demonstration on how to differentiate between 'crocs' and 'gators'. He brought out two 3ft specimens and set them down on the ground. He then nudged the alligator on the rear leg. The alligator just waddled off to find somewhere less bothersome. The crocodile, on the other hand, tried to take his leg off! Crocodiles can run but it's their lateral speed and reaction that makes them so deadly.

Can I add that this is not recomended as a way to tell the difference.Grin

Catch up with y'all later,

Dave

Wow! Easy to see why they get mistaken for a log in the water thanks to the log next to your Croc here! Well, at least I think that's a log!! Wonderful details. Pin sharp and great colours. Still chuckling re your write-up too.

Thanks for the tip, Dave: next time I meet up with them I'll know which one not to kickWinkWink.
A very fine shot capturing all that amazing detail in it's hide/skin/handbag or whatever, enhanced by that wonderful light playing on it.
And it does look fairly well camouflaged against the log it's resting on.

Cheers Martin - I've started re-sizing images for the web instead of just clicking the upload button - strips the exif data - I'll try to make make a note of it and put it back in in future .... if I remember Grin.

Not a macro though... just a straight forward with the trusty 15-85

Love the narrative Dave and the very sharp capture, about your comment on us liking beach holidays, we do love them but hire cars to get out and explore! Goa is the only place where we do not do this as the driving standards are terrible, we use taxis.

Nice and unusual lizard image. Superb crocodile image though. Thankfully they find it difficult climbing apartment and chalet walls. Looks so innocent, but they are evil personified. Met a few in South Africa. Not their fault I suppose.
Liked the story though. A cracking image Dave Smile

sometimes you can work your way through your faves on epz and see nothing out of the ordinary and nothing you would give your UA to (no offence meant) today there are a lot of images worthy of my UA and I dont have one to give - this image would be one of those I consider worthy of my award - absolutely brilliant in fact I will go as far as to say - outstanding work Smile

Made me wonder if they get a European in the morning and an Asia tourist for dinner Smile
