Cry to me

By TanyaH
During a lunchtime bimble today, the sun backlighting these reeds really caught my eye. So I whipped my trusty phone out and took a picture. As the sun was in my eyes, I wasn't entirely sure what I'd get but what the hell ... that's part of the fun of it all. This is cropped down from the original, which was more landscape in format and had some good ol' sunflare in the right hand side, but I did kind of like this one predominantly brave reed, thrusting its way up above the others.

I added the crow separately (yes, it's a brush ...) and then decided to give the Orton effect a go, as I've never done it before and have always liked it when I've seen it on others' images.

I did a few other things as well, such as black and white adjustment layer, several layered Colour Lookup adjustment layers (where, I think, I went with the 'futuristic bleak' preset for one ...) and I've got a horrible feeling I played with the Curves a bit too, though couldn't quote chapter and verse about the settings.

And yes, I know the sun's massively blown out ... but it's supposed to be a dreamscape, so it doesn't matter ... Tongue

Haunting... a bit like Poe's 'Raven'

Phragmites reeds... they always make me think of the pennants carried by horsemen in the massed armies that always feature in those movies by Kurosawa.
Great subject for a photo, and your leap in the dark ( or rather, the bright Grin ) got you a rather fine result. Great composition and topnotch processing. The sun's burnt out... well so what, this is Tanyaworld so deal with it GrinGrin

Oh I like this one and since you were not trying to do a reality shot Wink I could not care less about the sun, would not even have noticed if you hadn't mentioned. There is so much going on first though was "aboriginal dreamtime"...with all the shapes and figures, they seem to be constantly changing and moving Smile The mooses are going nuts in my head Wink

Brilliant processing!
