Just a glass of coke on a glass topped table.

Tweaks in PS - levels, curves and a mono conversion using channel mixer.

Comments and critique most welcome.

Thanks for looking!

Flip that Right to Left and you can have the unofficial flag of this Great Nation which drinks LOTS of Cola... Especially if the colours match.. say for example the glass of the table was light blue.. it would be another take on the formal stripes and stars...

I can see what drew your attention in the first place but I think after that you messed and missed it.

i have not seen the original colour of the table but I guess it is stanard uncoloured glass. Why mono?

Should you wanted to stress the contrast of the two glass surfaces, the vertical and the horizontal one, why is the glass full? Why not taking it as the glass is empty and the Cola is fizzing and not when it has stopped fizzing? Why not try to shoot when the cold drink creates perspiration on the glass? Play with the contrast of distance of close and far surfaces with a wider aperture than f/11. Want to remain steady on the long end? Up ISO to 400, set it to P, see what the camera does. Test what bokeh your lens can create.... Try a higher angle, 45 degrees, 65 degrees, 80 degrees.

You are in a good path. Keep shooting and experimenting.

You can upload images to Critique gallery if you want feedback, in the main gallery you get useful comments rarely...

Thanks Ollie, Arne and Pablo.

Pablo - firstly, many thanks for taking the time out for detailed comment - much appreciated.

I know there are a lot of other things I could have done with the image (although don't think I missed it altogether) - I was sat at a Greek cafe table, and I just spotted a chance at an abstract from my seat based on the patterns and reflections. It was a snapped opportunity - but I guess it would have helped to indicate that in the description.

Love all of your ideas and suggestions - and am now thinking about some of those as a "project" at home where I have a bit more control.

I do have a colour version (now uploaded as version 1) - doesn't work as well (IMHO) - brownish liquid, slightly blue hue to the table - mono helped the line and pattern emerge. As for settings - f11 at 85mm with the focus as close as the lens will allow gives a pretty shallow dof as it is, but yes - shallower may have worked better.

My "comments and critique" line in the blurb was to indicate I'm open to any suggestions as well as "nice shot" comments. I do however, very much appreciate your time and effort in commenting.

I am the first to see the colour version and I find I prefer it, especially the blue veins in table top, which radiate out from the glass. Like bolts of electricity or am I getting too fanciful? Keep experimenting that is how we improve.
