Culzean Castle

By RonnieAG
This view of Culzean Castle, Ayrshire, was taken in June, and I played around in Photoshop to give it an antique sort of appearance with an olive green vignette. I'm not sure how this will be received! But please feel free to be TOTALLY HONEST!
V 2 is the original.
V 3 has been added later and has white vignette as suggested by "Montana5".
V 4 has been added following Douggie's ("Scottishlandscapes") suggestion. I'm not sure if this is any better.

This was one of many shots taken on midsummer's day, many of which I have already posted under the "Culzean Castle Vol 1, 2 and 3" headings.

Details: ISO 200, 1/400 sec. at f/13.0, aperture priority.

Many thanks to all who voted for and commented on "Yellow Scabious" - your interest is greatly appreciated.

It works well with the ageing process here Ronnie. It looks like the old pics they sell in the second hand shops here and charge the tourists oodles of cash for !!

Ronnie, if I'm being honest and that's what you asked for, I feel V1 is spoiled by the vignetting process which has turned the Sepia effect green. Had the vignette been allowed to fade to white, in my opinion I believe it would have worked a treat, I realise the problem area was the trees in the bottom right of the picture and cropping them out would have spoilt the good composition.
Still gets my vote, because I often visit Culzean and I like the viewpoint you have used.

love it, I realise what another member is saying about the greeny effect at the bottom of the picture but I much prefer V1 to the V2 or 3 although they are all good in their own way

Goor Morning Ronnie yet another miserable day in bonny Glasgow sigh....for me I like your modifications to the original especially V1 ...the effect you have achieved is more than a vignette it has added an ageing effect due to the colour and i feel it is very very well suited to the image and is in keeping with the main subject matter nice to see you experimenting it can be very rewarding keep up the good work click click click

For me Ronnie it's just the colour that is wrong. Sepia is the old style, always was, the green is just wrong for me. If you look at the old images you'll see how it was done way back. Great idea though and keep up the experiments.

Ronnie thanks for adding a v3, I think that looks better, it certainly gives it more of a sepia effect, without the green cast, I also think it would look good printed.
edit...v4 just added but still prefer v3.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my idea, it does work for me at least.

Looks very realistic, now you have to give the edges that well thumbed look... LOL only joking my friend.

Hi Ronnie, for me has to be between V1 & V4.
V4 wins due to sepia toning of vignette.
Great image.

Enjoyed viewing all 4 of these lovely variations. Have to say, despite reading the above comments, rather like V1 with V3 being a very close run second for me.

8 Jul 2010 5:57PM
Hi Ronnie, excellent images. My fav. has got to be V1 followed by V4.

That green vignette works for me. Looking at the above comments I believe it is a case of "horses for courses". The art of photography is subjective. Isn't that what photography is all about?

If an image simulates discussion then as far as I am concerned that image is an excellent piece of art, time to get off my soap box, LoL Smile
Nice work.
