Cut Short

By Kali
This image is from a one day advertising project at uni - they gave us a brief in the morning, and we had to come up with an image by 3pm. The brief was a 'health education message about the dangers of smoking'
This image was created by myself (photography) and classmates Zemamnesh (photoshop) and Dagmara (model).

Well produced, but utter nonsense, how can anyone tell how long someone would otherwise live. Bit like the one that says "smoking ages your skin", I always thought time and life did that. Works well with the old silk cut references.
Jem

PS Did you know that the two nations with the highest number of smokers (Japan and China) also have the lowest incidence of lung cancer.

Paddy! I think this is great! :0 wonderful looking color in the bit o silk too, just to make sure that even in the face of death, the "glamour" of smoking is still not lost.....Id have been abit AR about getting the wheels level at the bottom of the frame. Still a cool photo though.

Lovely piece of work, for a pressure shot.

Si, be careful Kali is no girl, she is the Godess of Destruction; haven't you noticed the post mortem shots! Smile)

i think this is a fine example of quick creative thinking.

However, I would have liked a slash in the purple silk as in the silk cut ads to suggest the womens part in it all.

Silk Cut used the image of the purple slash to suggest a womens anatomy if you like to feminise cigarrette smoking. (Doubles the market )

Thanks for your comments Dianna!

We decided that the 'cut' in 'silk cut' in this instance would be symbolically represented - the cut, here is about the death of the young woman, the cutting of of her life all together rather than usual castration/circumcision analogies that Saatchi & Saatchi usually exploit, where just part of her(the genitals) are cut off, we wanted to show that look, its actually its the whole deal - she has been totally 'cut' - cut out of the world.

Also the probs department might not have been to happy at the destruction of their expensive bolt of raw silk!
