Dad with his camera

By oldgreyheron
As it's Fathers' Day I thought I'd upload a scan of a photo I took of my dad in about 1984. He introduced me to photography in the 50's. Sadly he's no longer with us but I have many happy memories. If I remember correctly this was taken on Fuji colour negative film on an Exakta Varex camera, my pride and joy at the time, and processed by Colab in Coventry. I must still have the camera in the loft somewhere. I don't remember the model number... But what camera is he using?

That as precisely what I was wondering.

Do you know and you're trying us out, or do you real want to know yourself?

No I don't know - it's a real question. He was very proud of his twin lens reflex...

I still have two 2 1/4 Yashicamat cameras. They have a centrally placed film advance handle on the side. So not Yahshica and seems not to be looking like a Rollicord so still guessing then. On second thought, this could be a different model of Yashica. That logo on top seems very much like the Yashica ' Y' logo. TG
PS. I remember those slip on lenses for a bit more reach or macro. Top one is matching viewfinder lens.

Thank you Tony. As soon as I read "Rolleicord" a bell rang in my head. I've googled and using images I've found the Rolleicord VA and then an instruction manual with a detailed diagram. I'm pretty certain I'm right. They went through hard times and I believe he must have sold it. I'll ask my mother!

A lovely image of your inspiration - I wonder what he'd think of digital photography?
I love your bookshelf too with all those children's stories - a kindle isn't the same at all.

Great image which really does bring back memories for me. The camera looks like a Rollie 'flex' or 'cord', but I could be wrong. For years I used 6 x 6 reflex cameras shooting with Kodak Vericlolor or B&W negative stock. I guess that dates me a bit. Smile
