This study contrasts the fresh growth with the dead wood so effectively, and I feel some of that contrast is lost in the B and W version, so my vote this time goes with the coloured one. A well spotted opportunity and capture, Annette.

Not only a nice study in contrasts but a very nice composition, dividing the shot up into thirds -- sky at the top, wood and then green plant life.

I agree with Ronnie, the colour gives so much more definition. Like the comp and contrasts and your off-hand description made me smile "some deadwood I found behind a Portuguese lighthouse" Grin

Just great, and could be anywhere down here where we are at the moment. Love old trees and their character. Jo

V1 for me, Annette! Do you know what my first impression was? A scaly, writhing serpent! Wonderful shot.

Love V1 Annette, the colour gives a greater dof and just completes the image for me. Carole

This has to be in color to appreciate that fine contrast of shapes and colors. The succulent plant in the foreground is fascinating.
I can see a face in the deadwood that looks for all the world like Cookie Monster on Sesame Street.
