Die Back, High Monaro, New South Wales

By BobinAus
These four eucalypts are but a small part of the large swathes of dead ribbon gums on the Monaro Plains. It appears that the gums, already at the edge of their habitat, were weakened by declining autumn rainfall and then succumbed to attacks by eucalypt weevils over the last three decades.

This image was processed with solarisation and contrast effects in Nik's Colour Effex, then these effects were softened by blending the processed image with itself as layers in Photoshop before final touch up in Lightroom.

Thank you to all those who viewed my last upload (Hervey Bay Marina) and who voted for, or commented on the image. Much appreciated!

Thanks for your comment, Paul. Actually, I was trying to create a sense of foreboding with this picture. The large areas of the Monaro that are covered with dead trees certainly look apocalyptic. In general, however, I think dead trees have a stark beauty. Cheers, Bob

Thanks very much for your comment Walt. All the best for the coming year. I look forward to seeing more of pictures, including the old and abandoned buildings and vehicles in Alberta or where ever you happen to find them. Cheers, Bob
