Digital Salvage.......

By teocali
I was just clearing up breakfast, when my husband shouted out that there was a hawk perching on our weather-vane. The 500mm was already on the tripod, so I staggered through, avoiding door-frames with the splayed tripod legs and just managed to position the lens at an angle, pointing diagonally through a glass door up to the roof. I didn't dare open the door as he would have been off!!
My first Kestrel and really only a record shot, but I have tweaked levels, highlights/shadows and sharpened in V1 to salvage as much detail as possible. The large version illustrates the lack of sharpness.
V2 shows the original, cropped but with nothing more done to it. Would appreciate mods to see what others could come up with, if anybody has the time.
Settings: F/5.6 1/400sec ISO500 manual @700mm through glass tripod

Many thanks for your C&Cs on my last upload - very much appreciated as always

Liked V1, a bit of composition on the eyes and head would have been perfect, but a very good try and well snapped

Very well spotted Sylvia and great of Simon to shout you. I think the problem has to be from shooting at an angle up through glass which has caused a slight refraction rather than oof.
Still as you say a great record shot
Have to differ though your first Kes was the one at Pagham or did I get it with your camera....lol
Like this though and well done on a super record shot

I think he's looking hungrily and hopefully at the feeders at the Southern end of the garden Steve - hopefully the little birds have got the message and have disappeared for the moment!

Well captured Sylvia, an excellent record shot and well done to your able assistant, well spotted. This just the beginning for your relationship with this superb lens and I am sure there will be many more opportunities in the future.

A great shot Sylvia, I had to smile about dragging the legs of the tripod through the door, I'm thinking of widening our door frames Wink
I think you done have exremely well with your work in PS and Graham's mod with just that extra touch of sharpening is wonderful too,
Geoff.

How lovely to see one in your garden; hopefully will be a regular visitor.
Going to echo Geoff's comments Sylvia; think you've done a great job boosting the contrast and detail and lovely clarity with Graham's mod.
Tim
