Dionaea Muscipula

By TrevBatWCC
The theme for our Camera Club's monthly online competition for March is 'Close-up'. Having won our January competition with my red funnels (also uploaded to EPZ on 2nd February), I had to judge the February entries - the theme being 'Patterns' - and it means whoever's judging obviously can't enter!
So, for March, having raked through my archives reprocessed this image, taken with my 85mm Micro Nikkor macro lens, of my Dionaea Muscipula I had 10 years ago (sadly, no longer with us, I'm not very good with plants 🙁 ). Thought it a good choice for our March competition, and again thought it as a suitable upload to EPZ. Better known as the Venus Flytrap, it's a carnivorous plant native to subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina and South Carolina. I may have another go at trying to keep one...

Many thanks to Kate (Irishkate) for her User Award on my previous upload, Snowdrops , most appreciated 🏆👍

Raw image processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's plugins and Photoshop Elements 2020.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😃👍

These plants always remind me of a 'Muppet', not sure which one.
A very nice upload Trev.

An excellent macro of this stunning Venus Fly Trap.
When I first came across these plants on a country walk, I though they were kind of cruel
and clever at the same time.

Great image Trev, sorry it died. What it from a lack of flies?

Having since read up about care and maintenance of these plants, it may have been due to the watering. I always use tap water (which, of course has chemicals in) for plants, but you should use either rainwater or distilled water for these.

A really lovely close up;
they probably prefer rain water and a position where they can catch flies or insects.

The living fly catcher, Trev, beautiful photo here. As a kid in Dorset we used to find Sundew, the wild British variant of this. Looks the same but smaller and reddish leaves.
Bravo for this image! 👍

I have always fancied having one of these Trev, but like you I am not great with house plants.....I need a house plant that will either like too much love and neglect at the same time. OR IT WILL DIE!
