'Dive, Dive, Dive!'

By briantjjones
A close encounter with a Humpback Whale at Aukes Bay in Alaska. This is close to Juneau and the image was taken while hanging of the bow of a small boat which was bobbing up and down a bit. This one was heading staight for the boat and was just about to 'flip' it's tail fin before going down on a deep dive to capture Krill. It's difficult to show the size as there was nothing else close to give some scale. I would say this particular what had a fin span of about 8 to 10 metres. Beautiful and graceful animals Smile

Thanks to everyone who voted and commented on yesterday's upload of Denali Park autumn.

Regards, Brian

I get the feeling the main body was right underneath your boat: somewhat unsettling but you managed to hold the camera real steady for this wonderful capture.

With a 10 metre tail, the body must be larger than can be imagined.
A terrific experience for you and I imagine that adrenaline was coursing through your veins...
... even if for hanging on to that wee boat..!
Classic shot, beautifully taken,
