Dockland regatta

By Focus_Man
Another test of my new Sigma f2.8 lens. I came upon the regatta accidentally although I have taken pics here before.

It might have been nicer as a complete shot to get the top of the crane in.
It appears the lens is sharp enough, but the lack of resolution is probably more to do with the resizing. The waves appear sharp, but the faces are indistinct.
The light looks good, and I don't suppose there was much you could do to get closer, so the shot is more a good record rather than a dramatic sports shot.
It might bear a slight clockwise rotation, but it doesn't jar as is.

Decent interesting image. Possibly slightly contrasty again. I find my Sigma 10/20 contrasty if I'm not careful. As yo well know, contrasty scenes are not easy to deal with and possibly a slight reduction in ex9osure then brighten selectively as necessary, but not bad at all.

Agree with the contrast, hence the mod. I do think the process for re sizing may be an issue. This one is 705ppi which is odd.

So the best way: Image>size>set ppi to 72>set longest size to 600 or 1000, whatever you need>OK>save as, and adjust the file size slider. You can leave it as high as it is, the file size really doesnt matter any more on the site.

Then open, check sharpness, and adjust, save, then upload.

Lots of good detail with the lens.

Hope this helps,

Regards

Thanks for comments.
Re the lens. Nick the faces are very sharp in the original even though this is a crop from full size. Yes it was just a record shot as I wanted to use the new lens.
Paul, the lighting was strange, very low sun and dark clouds, this was a fast break in the weather, lasted about 20mins. I will look out for contrast when doing further tests before being confident of its performance. You are right about the contrast, as is Willie. thanks for that.
Willie. Thanks for the help, I wasn't over bothered by the final size as long as it was more than 600 as when you want to make a mod with a crop it makes life difficult for the guy doing it. You end up having to increase the size back to 600 and the image suffers for it. Perhaps the 1000 is best but I am not quite sure how I ended up with 705!
