Dome Cupola, Castle Howard

By BigAlKabMan
Having been completely destroyed in the great fire of 1940 the Cupola has been rebuilt.
A difficult exposure given the high contrast, but achievable from the RAW file. By using a degree of glow in the cupola area I hoped to reproduce the ambiance experienced.

This is gorgeous. Lovely detailed image, very nice colours, well captured.

I can really offer very little other than a slightly different approach to processing, which I have uploaded.

I have lifted some shadow detail, increased contrast and saturation on the painted ceiling only in the cupola, and very slightly warmed the overall tone.

Well done

Yes, that worked!

The overall effect's lovely. There are tweaks to composition to be tried (and there's a good case for buying a 10-20 zoom for this kind of work), but exposure, tones and the ambience are perfect.

This is beautiful, Alan, with the exposure well handled.
You show a lot of the painted panels and the beauty of the architecture surrounding the cupola, and I think this is all the better for the lack of symmetry, it's far more interesting this way.
I find nothing to critique.

Pamela.
