Don't Do People, Don't Do Kiddie Pics!

By LynneJoyce
Another 'outside the comfort zone' post in response to a conversation I had about photography during which the other person remarked,

"You don't do people." I have also said of myself that I don't do kiddie pics and I don't like posed shots, both of which are true, but try telling my mother in law not to pose when she is anywhere near a camera (see version 12 where Helga too is posing!)

Anyway this prompted some archive diving (great activity during this rubbish weather) and this revealed that I do indeed do people, though not often as normally I prefer to capture them with my sketch book and paints.

V1 and V15 are kiddie pics, V1is from a book I did for a friend that features his enchanting daughter, Grace, V15 a picture of our charming new neighbour in Spain clutching the toy we bought for him. V's 4 & 13 are dedicated to Lifesnapper.

Since Garrath had cancer I have become more aware of the need to capture friends and family and there are some of these here, but as ever, I always prefer candid shots. I am not sure that he will be too pleased about me posting V2 which I believe to be a picture that perfectly portrays the consequences of hitting the gin bottle hard whilst at a friends house!

Thank you for looking and I hope that you enjoy at least some of them.

P.S. I have added two more versions in response to Pluckyfilly's comment - "Lynne my only criticism would be that I do like to see what a person is resting on, as in the little lad (beautiful image in every way BUT) he looks as if he is floating in mid air!" She actually was floating in mid air as she had jumped spontaneously but I get the point and did the two versions to give more context, and just for the hell of it!

V2 for me as I look worse there than at the worst of the cancer! Grin

A real hangover is a rare luxury in these advanced years!

And as for v14 I really must get some new clothes in Spain! I love the scowl of concentration you've captured.

I love any tog who shoots outside her comfort zone. V1 is the epitome of cute. This would not be a fraction of the shot you have here if you tried to pose her.

What a wonderful collection of people pics from your archives Lynne, my favourites in no particular order are 1, 2, 7, 12 and 15. These are all portraits that really show these peoples characters and the expressions captured are priceless. No prizes for guessing which ones Lifesnapper and Mikbee will pick as their favourites!WinkGrin

I think you need to do a bit of leg shortening in V.14, Lynne Wink A most interesting set, the little lad in V.15 is so very cute, and obviously playing up to the camera. Super set of varied images. Carol

Thank you so much for those two lovely pictures LynneSmile I like them very much.
And yes, I always say that the pictures we take of Friends and Family might mean very little Today, but with time, they become to mean so much more, and become so SO precious.

I don't do people full stop especially kiddie shots! But like you I might find a few if ever I found the time to look (since I was poorly and for so long I have been forever trying to play catchup) a great set of piccies Lynne my only criticism would be that I do like to see what a person is resting on, as in the little lad (beautiful image in every way BUT) he looks as if he is floating in mid air!

GrinBlushTongueGrin v2 has me in fits but so has v4..and its sibling Smile excellent wildlife shots! there were also some interesting beach mammals guess you need some courage to do this.

Guess what, I would need even more courage to do v1 and the last one, I'd be afraid to get killed by the parents, they would probably get away with it for excruciating circumstances. Must admit I duck when it comes to pretty kid shots, babies are even worse because I can't get them to sit on a branch or stick GrinGrin
I have to stop giggling and go to bed.

I thought my favourites would be 4 and 13 but after seeing 2 it has to be that one Lynne.
Garrath is a man after my own heart with putting two fingers up to the ''establishment'' !!
I think Garrath would make a splendid photo project.
I always thought it was a lot of crap to hear talk by all the old codgers at my camera club as to how they wanted to capture the ''character and soul'' of a person they are photographing.I think I know now what they mean !!

V1 and V15 apart your wicked streak is still apparent.
I do like V3 with the less than perfect beach babes and labels sticking out!

V12 is perfect for the family album whether you like it or not and the less we say about Gareth the better!

V1 V4 and V15 I like. Well done Lynne.
