"Don't Laugh at Me ('cause I'm a Fool)"

By TrevBatWCC
Sir Norman Wisdom OBE, born 4th February 1915, was one of Britain's best-loved actors, comedian and singer-songwriter, best known for a series of comedy films produced between 1953 and 1966 featuring his hapless onscreen character called Norman Pitkin.
Wisdom also gained celebrity status in lands as far apart as South America, Iran and many Eastern Bloc countries, particularly in Albania. In 1995 he was appointed OBE and was knighted five years later.
He came to love the Isle of Man, and lived in Andreas in the north of the island for 27 years, in a house called 'Ballough'. Due to ill-health, he was admitted to Abbotswood Nursing Home in Ballasalla in July 2007. He died there on 4th October 2010, aged 95, and was buried here in Kirk Bride Churchyard in the village of Bride, 7.6 km north of Ramsey.
The title above was a song co-written by Norman Wisdom and June Tremayne; they appear to have both contributed to the words and the music. It was performed by the comedian himself in the 1953 film 'Trouble In Store', and became his theme song.

I loved Norman when I was younger. I don't think you can hear the words "Mr. Grimsdale!" without his voice ringing out!! He had a lovely singing voice and 'Don't laugh at me 'cause I'm a fool' is one of my favourites of his!

I have fond memories of Sir Norman who gave me many a laugh over a long period of time.
Nicely recorded set of images, Trev, and I do like the stone with his signature song on it.

Gorgeous series I remember him well, a great man always brought a smile and laughter. He looks like he has a peaceful place to rest.

We stayed in a hotel on Douglas seafront next door to a theatre outside of which was a statue of the man himself seated on a bench.

Well kept graveyard - I didn't know he had connections with IOM.

a great set and nostalgic memories: Mr. Pitkin comedy movies were wildly popular in the Soviet Union in the late 1950s - early 1960s

An interesting write up Trev. I don't think he was televised here in Canada. Or I missed it.

Nicely done Trev. Sir Norman was adored in Albania. Not a lot of people know that.
