Doocoot at Dumfries House

By Irishkate
Built in 1671 this Doocet or Dovecote was one of my favourite finds in the grounds of Dumfries House.
I'll upload a few versions as I couldn't make up my mine which angle was best.
As usual I didn't use my tripod so the building is not as sharp as I'd like!
close your eyes and smell that honeysuckle - it was heavenly.
Glad you all liked my Sunday Day of Rest (bluebell painting) - thank you for vs & cs.

couple of things, one should remove the lens shade when using flash-- to avoid the shadow in v5
also, the lead in in v1 is excellent as are the detail close ups

My favorite is the view framed by the trees in v2

Nice work!
I like V1 and V3 the best.

What a lovely home for the doves, Kate, though too pristine to be in use now, which is a shame. Lovely set of captures. Carol

Nicely nestled away in the trees Kate. See what you mean about the angles - all good but i think its v1 for me - just.

A fine set, Kate. v3 would probably be considered the conventional composition but v1 has the most impact for me. v2 looks good with the sides of the building softened by the foliage.

I have an old doocot just down the road from me Kate.
They can't knock it down as it is actually a listed building !!

V3 is my choice for the off center composition and the lead-in with the walk. The details in v4 are also very interesting. Do they actually still keep doves there now?
