Down by the riverside

By TrevBatWCC
Having visited the interior of Durham Cathedral, I took a walk down South Bailey, the road leading down from the east end of the Cathedral past the college area, which brings you to Prebends Bridge. Crossing the bridge and turning right, the walk along the riverside path offers good views of the Cathedral's west end, which towers over the Old Fulling Mill next to the weir. The Mill takes its name from the beating and cleaning of cloth in water, the process shrinking the loose fibres of the cloth, making it a denser fabric. The building now houses the Museum of Archaeology. V4 is looking back towards Prebends Bridge.

V1 is the classic view, but I like the fact that you have included a bit more breadth than often appears.
V4 - As a footnote, Prebends Bridge is pedestrians only but I believe that it is occasionally opened to vehicles for the funeral corteges of Cathedral dignitaries.

A stunning view. V1 and 4 are my favorites. I love the bridges that I saw in Great Britain. Both functional and beautiful.

V2 is the one used on book covers but V1 is better balanced, the tree on the left to some extent offsetting the bulk of the Cathedral. Four excellent views altogether.
