Award Shortlist

Down in the Oak Grove, Canberra

By BobinAus
Thanks for your interest in my previous two uploads -the rainforest stream in Queensland and the old sailing boats on Lake Burley Griffin. After a somewhat chaotic six months, during which, unfortunately, I've been a somewhat infrequent visitor to E'zine, it's a pleasure to 'walk' through the gallery again and to be catching up with the fine pictures in members' portfolios.

And thanks to Jukka, Ivor and Isabel for commenting on this picture before it was uploaded to the Gallery. It's composed of 5 images, stacked in Photoshop. The blend produced by PS may not be as refined as that which dedicated focus stacking software might produce. It required a little tidying up here and there but as a first exercise in focus stacking from a newbie to the game, I'm pleased with the results. I hope you like it too.

Looks like a great focus stacking job to me. It works really well, showing the mushroom in it's environment.

I didn't spot it was focus stacked but then the sharpness of both foreground and background should have made me think.
Nonetheless, a very pleasing shot, and well processed too.

Thanks for your comment Allan. The thick bed of leaves made this picture the most comfortable of the low POV shots I have taken!

Thanks a lot Barry. A morning fog muted allowed the colours of both the trees and the mushroom to stand out. The fog also muted the shadows that would otherwise be distracting. Cheers, Bob

Thanks for your comment Walt. Just regarding this picture, not focus stacking in general, very little learning was required. Photoshop did all the hard work for me! In general I prefer a more narrow depth of field but in this setting I was happily impressed with the result as it popped up on the screen.

Bob
