Downy Woodpecker

By taggart
Downy Woodpecker

It was a windy day. She was busy looking for hidden seeds.

EDIT: Late morning in Pennsylvania --- the Downy woodpecker-- 6 inches, and the Hairy Woodpecker --- 9 inches---live in North America. the males have a red patch at the back of their heads-- I will attempt to find or capture a male and post it.

This will also appeal to mikbee, the added rust interest. Looks like the wind has caught his feathers so he is clinging on!

Lovely windblown woodpecker - is this a juvenile without any colour
or just a different species from ours in GB?

Your monochrome woodpecker sure blends into the snow better than our red capped ones
