Dragonfly

By Alan_Baseley
Came across this Dragonfly a couple of days ago.
I think it's a Brown Hawker but I'm not too sure.

Whatever it is, it is different and out of the ordinary. It looks great on the ground, a 'cracking shot', indeed.

I'm not sure either Trevor. I looked on the British Dragonfly Society website and couldn't see one that looked like it. I chose the Brown Hawker because of the brown in the wings. I put a second shot up here , and that shows the brown(ish) wings rather better. But I'm really not sure.

It does look very like a Keeled Skimmer Alan, however the image in the Collins Complete Guide to British Insects is not as crisp and sharp as this one. A superb image, well done.

Thanks Nathan. I looked at that on the BDS website but didn't think it was one. It could be a Common Darter.
Lets face it I don't know!!!

I was going to say Common darter but it's markings appear different. You could pm epzer Bricurtis, he's an expert on dragonflies, he may be able to id it for you
