Dream Weaver

By mmz_khan
This picture was taken at a small Rakhain village close to Kuakata. In Rakhain community girls need to know about weaving and other needlecraft. This is a prerequisite to get married. It seems like they are weaver of their own dream.

A beautifully composed and exposed image with gorgeous colour and light. "Enchanting"

A really lovely shot. Subject, composition colour, exposure, all work very well.

The idea of Dream Weaver is nice too. It reminds me of the native North Americans Dream Catcher, which they make with feathers.

I looked at the embedded exif data, and I notice that clarity is quite high. This gives the shot, for me, a slightly harsh look, with high contrast, and a hint of oversharpening. Leaving this at zero, and using sharpening can work better in my experience.

I have made this change in the mod, with a slight change in colour temp to favour the yellow canopy, that seems to contain a little too much blue and green.

Well done,

This is very well shot.

It would be nice to see just a little more of the face, as the eyes are what the viewer looks at first. The direction of her look would still connect with her work. A small point, and something I'd usually only comment on in the Critique Gallery.

A square crop would be an alternative here. I'll upload a mod, see what you think.

That strong angle of light, and those highlight spots on the blue background that suggest a starry sky help give the impression of a dream, nicely done.

There's a very attractive atmosphere of calm, quiet. Two things would improve this for me: if we could see more of the lady's face, and if she moved a little to our left so that we could have her still lit by light from the window, but without the window itself being in the frame. I find the very light area a bit of a distraction. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I shall upload a tighter crop, just for comparison.

I want to see more of her face, too - but then, I thought, perhaps this just adds to the dreamlike quality.

Almost all of the elements of the picture are delicate, exotic and rich - and there's the glimpse of reality through the doorway. Again, this could clash - or it is possible to see it as being a slight attachment to the everyday world.

I hope she is able to weave some wonderful dreams for herself, as well as for others.
