i was just going to say the same so i wont steal Simons thunder.
there is some lovely colour and texture in there and i think sufficient to keep you busy for several nights playing and im sure you could pull out a stunner from these.
id play with lighting angles to create some through light and shadow and try different back drops but i love the slices they are such interesting shapes. when you take the shots leave space around the subject and crop later, gives you more possibilities in the post processing

I agree with all of the above. I think that if you are going to include the bowl, it needs to become more of a feature of the image. Alternatively, if you shot this from above and excluded any of the bowl, it would make a fine abstract. I have done a modification where I blackened the background, cropped, adjusted levels and sharpened. It gives you an idea for a different background, and one that doesn't compete with your subject, and of how nice the shapes can be when close up.

Great comments. If i don't get it right on the first shot.. I am NOT inclined to post process.. I believe it devalues my learning as a photographer by making up for mistakes and now that I look at this photo there is not enough negative space.. The lemon close up is so close that it would have been just a seed showing.. I have a lot of shots of this bowl and lemon...perhaps I should do a post process and post it again to see if i can get it right..Thanks, I'll give it a shot soon
