Many have tried & failed, including me... Excellent work with this very difficult macro in-flight shot, Vic. Timing & detail are spot on.

Hi folks!
Thankyou all for your lovely comments they are all very much appreciated.

I thought i'd share what i discovered that enabled me to take this shot and so far it's only the Drone fly that i have found doing this.

I listened for a prolonged and somewhat excited and higher pitched droning sound (quite obvious once you know what to listen for) and sure enough, there was the male hovering close above a female trying to win her affections with a display of precision hovering and quick drops to bat her on the abdomen. He was so thoroughly engrosed in his activities that my very stealthy approach (crawling through the undergrowth) went unnoticed so i got to within a few inches of the pair Smile
I hope this helps those of you who have tried without success as i have done so often in the past until i realised what to look for and listen for Wink best of luck to you!!!!
