Duck in the Lillies

Went to a market in Napier and saw some ducks going around a fountain. Caught this beauty.

At such a wide aperture you needed very precise focus on the eye, which you dont have here.


Its can be sharpened, and needs a little more exposure, as in the mod.

Really nice setting, but the problems as above. To follow on from Willie's comment - why such a large aperture? Just because the lens offers F1.4 that doesn't mean that it's necessary or even advisable to go that wide in normal light conditions. The lens will perform best from around F3.5, F5.6 would still have isolated the subject against the background. It would have given a wee bit of leeway over the focus on the eye, which is important, and brought the rest of the duck into focus. You were on 1/3200 second, seeing something that extreme appear at the bottom of the viewfinder should prompt you to look at alternatives.
