Dudley Castle

By PhilT2
Dudley Castle is a ruined fortification in the town of Dudley in the West Midlands. Originally a wooden motte and bailey castle built soon after the Norman Conquest. It was rebuilt as a stone fortification during the twelfth century but subsequently demolished on the order of King Henry II. Rebuilding the castle took place from the second half of the thirteenth century and culminated in the construction of a range of buildings within the fortifications by John Dudley. The residential buildings were destroyed by fire in 1750.
Dudley Zoo is located in the grounds of the castle

Very moody. Lovely.
Excellent image
Glad to make it 30 and to confess, shamefully, that I had no idea that Dudley has a castle! It looks very impressive and your commentary is, as always, very interesting. I love the image and the way it has been processed. I'm sorry my lad but you'll just have to have a gong. SmileSmileSmile

An interesting history of the castle plus a very good illustration of it's present day construction. I also like your processing of the image, nice one, Phil
