When I went there last year, I struggled to find any angle/composition at all.

I think there are only a small number of real compositions at DD, but they are quite dramatic when you get it right. I think I just missed this one. I checked where the sun was going to set and made a mad dash to the coast to get something as the sun was setting between the two masses of land. Later in the year the sun sets behind the mainland and isn't so good for this angle.

JanineenyMS, I'm no pro, just an enthusiastic amateur but thanks for the thoughtSmile

Cheers for the comments guys.

Regards, Alan.

P.S. Cheers Paul, it's good to see you on here again. I hope everything's going well for you and your family. All the best, Alan.

Try this site for sunset angles and times

I find this very useful for planning a trip. I think it's been talked about on here before but it may have been the beta version. This is a free download for photographers. Stubill alerted me to this site so thanks go to him for the info.

A superb dramatic image.

I take it the free download for sunsets & angles is good, where does it cover, wordwide?

It covers the whole world as far as I know Brian. It works like Google maps but has directional information on the sunrise/set and moon rise/set positions. I think it's a pretty good program.

love the water movement. I was travelling back from London on the M3 on Sunday, and saw the sun setting, and wishing I was somewhere along the Dorset coast !!
