Time to hold my hands up. For those of you who have been on EPZ for a while you would have seen a previous post by me of this shot in Mono. However as I am now going to enter this shot into a competition I thought I would try another variation. So I went back into Silver Efex. Personally I think it may lack some of the impact of the mono version but on the other hand I think there is something compelling about this one. My wife, who is not into photography, but crafting, likes this version better! By the way I need to add on I took this shot on the Crewe to Chester line which is not electrified. I like to shoot steam trains to replicate the age when they were in vogue and try to avoid modern day artifacts like modern signals and mobile phone masts. David

I like your treatment of this. It seems to have a slight tilt to the train, which suits it coming round the corner at speed. The vignette also helps, as it directs you to looking at the train and not the surroundings.

The sepia suits the era of steam trains - like your thinking with no signals etc.

A great looking steam train photo....with sold cars as well. Vintage image given away by one thing..the modern railroad ties. And aren't we glad that the era of steam is over...for the sake of the climate and planet.

Thanks for your comment Peter. I am glad in this country we can see some steam train excursions on Heritage lines and some on main lines, electrified or non electrified. Before my main career in the police my first job was in the coal industry. Although our Government has approved the opening up of a new coal mine, the first one in 30 years, there is far more pollution in the world now from non coal sources. I agree with you though that heating of homes and the build of new vehicles from electrical sources is the way ahead. It would not surprise me if, in the near future, electric cars had their source of electricity from solar panel roofs. David

The vingettimg behind the train gives it a sense of from time....appropriate to,day for a steam train....happily a relic of history....coal got g away.
