Eastern Bluebird (Female)

By glazzaro
This is a female Eastern Bluebird. I was fortunate enough to get shots both of the male and female. Of course ladies always go first.

7" (17 cm). Bright blue above and on wings and tail; rusty throat and breast; white belly and undertail coverts. Female similar, but duller.

Open woodlands and farmlands with scattered trees.

4-6 pale blue eggs in a loose cup of grasses and plant stems in natural tree cavities, old woodpecker holes, fence posts, and bird boxes.

Breeds east of Rockies from southeastern Canada to Gulf of Mexico; also in mountains of southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. Winters in southern part of breeding range. Also in Mexico.

Good photo of this colourful bird against a dark background. I'd prefer if you had placed the bird off-centre, and perhaps placed the lower edge above the white markings on the branch.

Thank you Tony, I think your right, I need to learn not to focus in the center, I have read various articles that do in fact state this is a no no, I will work on it, I just have a tendancy to migrate towards the center! Thank you for your comments, I will get the next off center.

John, all the bird shots I have taken thus far have come from a field/wooded area about 3 from my home in Northen Virginia. We have about 150 species of birds in my area. I actually stood out in the field today and waited for the birds to get used to me then started shooting.

Morning Greg, great shot, the background really brings the bird out, as always nice n sharp. Im not sure an off centre crop would enhance this anymore, worth looking at though. Keep em coming, you have a few more out of the 150 species to show us. Cheers and Click, Chris.
