Egrets

By Ade_Osman
Not the greatest grab shots in the world by any stretch of the imagination, however I thought I'd post this image because of the rarity value! This shot was taken yesterday whilst myself and Sue, (the wife, for those of you that don't know) were travelling down to Shapwick Heath on the Somerset Levels in order to try and capture the thousands of Starlings that roost on the marshes down there overnight. I'm sure you may have seen pictures of this happening on the recent BBC AutumnWatch TV program. Anyway whilst we were getting close to our destination I managed to catch sight of these wonderfully unusual birds out the corner of my eye in a field we were passing at the time......I threw out the anchors as quick as I could, then slowly reversed the car back to a suitable position so as to get a few shots, but in the end decided that the only way we were going to get any kind of decent shot was to get out the car and get the cameras pointing above the hedgerow. The trouble with this being that we knew we'd only get a few seconds before the whole lot flew off! Once we'd got out the car we were really surprised to spot at least 12 birds. This is probably one of the better shots of the few we managed to get before they all decided to move off, they're not something you see everyday so as a grab shot we were quite pleased and considered ourselves lucky we had spotted them!....Hope they interest you too.....Incidently we did get our planned shots of the Starlings, hope to post one or two of these over the next day or so......Regards to all as always....Ade

The egrets are my fav. Ade-- There is a flock that live in a near by spring-- Sometimes one will visit the creek-- especially hard to capture!

Thanks for the view!

Its a e-great shot Ade, it is so lovely to see them. When I went to the States they seemed more common than seagulls but more shy lol !! Loads of them, little, great and snow egrets. Such a treat to see them here though. Well done.
