Egyptian Goose

By BlackNinja
Hi,
Many thanks for comments on Gadwall. Sorry I havent been around but we had a busy weekend with football and silverstone .

I will catch up later on but here is todays pic a Egyptian Goose. These were imported and escaped to the wild. Think they are reasonable rare expect in East Anglia

Have been unsure about cropping here . wasnt sure to have just the goose or include the reflection . In the end I went for refelction as well. Please let me know what you think

Thanks for looking
Charlie

There is insufficient detail in the shot to go for a much closer crop so your choice of including the reflection was a good one.

Charlie a very well timed shot with good feather detail - I would agree with the crop but prefer a wind still day for reflection, the slightest ripple in the water cause the reflection to be distorted, however you went for the bird & not for the reflection specifically so it doesn't matter - hope you don't mind. Keith maybe I can help. Im charlies dad and was just checking his comments etc to make sure of online safety. I can see charlies point . In the film Keria Keightly stands ontop of an outcrop of rocks very similar in pose and looks to yours. the outcrop is stanage edge. I have found an alternative link it is
http://www.peak-experience.org.uk/tourism/explore-the-guides/peak-experience-guides/peak-film-literature/attraction-details/PrideandPrejudice.html?ContentID=164&PHPSESSID=c055a8650f6628d91994a5c490f4c3ef

unfortunately this is a close up but if your still puzzled I post a pic of my mrs on the same outcrop

I loved looking at this image, your timing was spot on, and he looks as if he's performing in a ballet.
The crop, like others have said is fine, and the reflection adds to the image. I did wonder if you could improve it a little by altering that slanting water, as it goes upwards, and I think it would look better if it was straight. (Get your Dad to show you how to do it if it's something you havn't done before, and see if it does look better, I think it will)

Very good shot, captured just at the right moment. Egyptian geese are very common here in South Africa (we regularly get them in the little marsh beside our house) but I remember seeing some in Hull before I left the UK so I know they do breed there. i THINK YOU DID THE RIGHT THING WITH THE REFLECTION, DEFINITELY WORKS WELL.

East Anglia - I used to live there as a kid, great place, but very flat. Nice shot, would have been better with a little blur, just to capture the movement, but overall a great shot.

what i really like about this is how youve got the reflection of the bird in as well , to improve this try to include the full reflection if possible.looks like this was shot at high iso , you can see some grain in the top portion of the pic , i use a program called noise ninja to reduce this. if you do a search on google for it you can then download one of the basic versions for free
