Pete is right, but hopefully the EC will overcome that as it has to be viewed large. Great mono and use of the big stopper.

I am a big fan of B&W hence the vote - but I don't agree with some of the comments above. I think it looks over-processed and/or over-sharp when viewed large. I have tried to look at the direction of the light and how it sits with the highlight and shadow in this image - either real or percieved there is an incongruity between the two that leads me to this comment. This puts me slightly at odds with the crowd and the awards but it is in the spirit of providing critiques Smile Steve.

Steve, never feel that you can't say what you really feel about my work, I am happy to recieve all critique, good or bad - it's the only way we can improve. A while ago I tred an experiment posting my work elswhere without commenting on any other postings on the site just to see if the "backscratching" was giving a false impression of how my work is recieved. I'm relieved to say that in that case it was fine, but I would rather someone didn't vote and say why, than voting "just because everyone else does". I used the shadow/highlight tool set to 15, 15, 302 and didn't touch the defaults for the highlights, so what you see other than that is what was there, maybe the long exposure has affected things - not sure?

The one thing that bothers me about the image is the huge water spot bottom left that I hadn't noticed till just now, surprised noone else has mentioned it. Anyway, like I say, thanks for the vote, but more importantly thank you for giving a "real" critique.

All the best
Paul

This is the best shot for me from this visit to the coast, by far
. Maybe the judges should have kept their powder dry and given he main award to this one alone.

You should do more monochrome Paul, you have the eye for the image without the bright colours to ambush the viewer.
