Now this shows what a decent phone, used correctly, can do. Nice and sharp with a tight crop and drop of water. A Emperor dragonfly I think.if such files would be commercial acceptable due to sensor size is another issue, but you have done well with a steady hand.

A decent shot, and impressive that you got that close without disturbing it (assuming this is not a crop from a larger file).

Technical quality is good but you can tell it's from a smaller sensor, though adequate for many perposes, certainly as a record or ID. Many people would be pleasd to have captured this.

Cropping well in gives a bold result.
Having the insect at an angle is seen to be more interesting (visually dynamic)than it being straight, so with that in mind I'd try to get the body going right into the corner.
I've done a mod showing that, and had to roughly clone in areas becasue of the rotation. Spending longer would give a better result buit it's the general idea I wanted to get over.

A great shot, Laura.

My modification seeks to tidy up the presentation, and is just a suggestion.

I rotated the image 10 degrees anti-clockwise. This removed the dark area bottom right, gave a bit more of a diagonal to the body, and allowed me to bring the dragonfly's body nicely into the bottom right corner.
I then cropped and cloned detail into the top left corner. I also sharpened it.

Pamela.

PS: I see that Keith has commented whilst I was typing, and we have said some similar things.
Great minds..... !

A PS from me too, with a welcone tp the Critique Gallery.

I meant to add that this is good enough shot to gain votes in the main Gallery. Look forward to more work from you.

And welcome from me, too.

This is a showcase shot for mobiles: having recently tried to use mine (you can read about what I decided HERE on this site), I am even more impressed than I would have been before.

You're not exclusively a mobile user - your other upload so far was shot with a Nikon. What do you make of the experience of shooting with a 'phone?

For a 12 year old smartphone, this is very good.

Thank you for all your kind comments. I couldn't believe my luck when the Dragonfly just stood there while I took numerous photo's. My Nikon was indoors and I was worried he would fly away if I went to get it. I selected the wrong phone name, it is actually a Samsung S9 that I used, and the photo was not cropped. I love my Nikon D5300 and just this morning I took delivery of a new Nikkor 70 - 300 lens; just a shame it is raining!

I used to be an ephotozine member some years ago; my photos are still here but I have changed my email address since then and can't remember my password :-(

Admin might well be able to help with the old password, or melding the portfolios...
