The contrast of yellow to the mostly grey background is very strong the man is the central piece of the photo and his is absorbed in the news of his newspaper.
Unfortunately, we seem to fail to realise how close is the book of NineteenEightyFour sixty years after its publication. Wars are still going on, sides and allies change drastically, the proles keep betting and filling stadiums.
The three figures fill the frame (for those who want to complain, there are almost three objects there too, the bike the lamp and the black iron box. Quite balanced then. I did wonder what the story could imply if the left side was cropped the lady and the lamp post were not in the frame anymore. It holds a sequence of cause and effect, read for right to left boy sells paper, man buys it and reads it. If M says anything, well that is the way people who write right to left read pics, lol. I imagine it would be a square format then... more balance raised to square power. Well then....
